Astrology Compatibility, Reimagined: Reading Two People Across Four Systems
15 June 2026
"We're both Leos, are we compatible?" It's a fun question and a nearly meaningless one. Sun-sign compatibility ignores almost everything that actually determines how two people fit. Here's what a real compatibility reading looks like.
Western synastry: the chemistry
Proper Western compatibility ("synastry") compares two full charts — not just Suns. It looks at how your planets aspect each other: your Venus to their Mars (attraction), your Moon to their Moon (emotional rhythm), Saturn contacts (longevity and friction). This is where the spark — or the grind — actually shows up.
BaZi: the elemental fit
The Chinese view is different and beautifully concrete. It asks: do your Day Master elements nourish or drain each other? Does one person feed the other (a generating relationship) or control them (a pressuring one)? It even detects classic stem combinations (like 乙庚合) — a near-magnetic pull between two core selves — and branch harmonies and clashes that show ease or friction in daily life.
Crucially, BaZi compatibility is often directional: what you give your partner can differ from what they give you. One may nourish while the other leads. Naming that asymmetry is half the value.
Zi Wei: whose life lights up whose
Zi Wei adds another angle: how one person's energy lands in the palaces of the other's life — does your presence bring prosperity (化禄) into their romance or wealth palace, or friction (化忌)? It's a strikingly specific read on the effect you have on each other.
Why read all of them
Any one system can flatter or scare you. Read together, they triangulate: a couple with strong Western chemistry, complementary elements, and favourable palace contacts is a very different prospect from one with chemistry but clashing elements. And the honest readings tell you not just a score, but what to do about the rough edges.
